Since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic your SYFA Board and Greater Eastside Junior Football Association (GEJFA) have met regularly to try and determine a safe path to play football this fall. The night before last the GEJFA Council met and the decision was made to unfortunately cancel the 2020 youth football season. The link to read the official announcement from the President of the GEJFA is HERE.

The SYFA Board had our monthly meeting last night and has agreed to explore the opportunity of offering a 2021 youth season that will coincide with the High School season. Links for the survey mentioned above will be forwarded as soon as they are available and we would appreciate you taking a minute to complete it. The time frame for this season will run late February through early May. We will also be offering the cheer season to coincide for our aspiring youth cheerleaders. I do want to make sure that at this point we are exploring the option of this season and several factors above and beyond interest will ultimately determine whether the alternate season will happen including: registration numbers at each level (Rookies/Cubs/Sophomore/JV/Varsity), field availability, interest amongst enough GEJFA members to field teams for games, State and local guidelines, CDC, etc. It will all begin by participating in the survey which we expect will be released in early September and the Council decision in our meeting in October.

For all players who registered and paid (tackle football, flag football or cheer), your registration payment is fully refundable. If you would like your refund please submit your request via email to Stephanie Rubyor at syfa.contact@gmail.com , you will also have the option of leaving your payment in your athlete’s name for the potential winter season or can apply the payment to your 2021 fall registration. Anyone not requesting their payment be refunded will have a credit in their athlete’s name.

While this pandemic has caused changes in so many ways for each of us, our hope was that football season might at least provide a return to a sense of normality. Unfortunately this will be added to the list of changes, adjustments and inconveniences COVID-19 has left in its wake. We look forward to future communications with the parents, athletes and coaches of SYFA and returning soon to the gridiron for practices and games.

We wish you safety, good health and hope as we navigate through these uncharted times.

Sincerely your SYFA Board of Directors
